Member Companies Assist in TIA's Evolution to
'E-Association'

A few months ago, I was pleased to discuss with you the new structure of TIA, which was the result of a long process of evaluating how the association can best continue to adapt to the evolving needs of our members and the industry.

With the reorganization of TIA, the association took part in an expansion that required new network system upgrades. We sought the help of the members of the Fiber Optics LAN Section (FOLS) of TIA to assist us in building out our network.

On behalf of the association, I want to thank the companies who donated equipment and helped make our network upgrade possible: Leviton Voice & Data, BICCGeneral, Corning Cable Systems, Lucent Technologies and 3M -- Telecom Systems Division. Thanks to the generous donation of a wide variety of network infrastructure equipment, TIA has been able to save thousands of dollars -- allowing us to focus on providing continued service to our members through new programming and other services.

As a result of our upgrade, TIA now has the capacity to operate 100 Mbps at the desktop-level in addition to running Gigabit Ethernet with its newly purchased switch. We are grateful for the generosity of our member companies, which continue to demonstrate their leadership in the communications infrastructure sphere. Their commitment to supporting the association enables us to lead the continued technical evolution of TIA into a true “e-association,” as we are committed to serving our members in new and leading-edge ways.

To learn more about the work of FOLS, please visit http://www.fols.org. For more information about TIA’s "e-association" initiative or to express your interest in equipment donation, please contact the office of Dan Bart, TIA senior vice president, standards and special rojects, at (703) 907-7726.
